1. [Adams, Louisa C.]
Printed Invitation, signed
(Washington, D.C.), Dec. 6, 1823. One sheet folded to make 4 pp.; 4 7/8 x 7 3/4 in. (124 x 197 mm). Partially-printed invitation, possibly accomplished by Adams, to a Ms. John Connell, inviting her to tea on the 9th of December, and "every alternate Tuesday during the Session of Congress when agreeable."; possibly additionally signed by her on fourth page ("Ms. Connell"). Additional autograph letter in pencil on pp. 2-3, from John Connell (a director of the Bank of the United States in 1838) to Nicholas Biddle, informing him of his arrival in Baltimore, no date: "On board the Wilmington Steam Boat". Includes a clipped engraved portrait of John Quincy Adams.

2. Garfield, Lucretia

Mentor, O(hio)., June 26, 1887. One sheet folded to make 4 pp.; 6 3/8 x 4 1/8 in. (162 x 105 mm). Autograph letter on mourning stationery, signed by Garfield, to editor and author Edward Bok concerning her reception of a copy of the latters' book Beecher Memorial; Contemporaneous Tributes to the Memory of Henry Ward Beecher: "allow me to say that you have honored the contributors in making the book so worthy. As a tribute to the memory of Mr. Beecher I trust it may be acceptable to his family." Creasing from original folds. Includes one printed wedding invitation from Lucretia Garfield to Joseph Stanley Brown, for the marriage of her daughter Mary, as well as three signed envelopes.
