1864-Dated Civil War Model 1840 Musician's NCO Sword
1864-Dated, Civil War Period, Model 1840 Musician's NCO Sword, "Made by AMES MFg. Co., CHICOPEE, MASS", with its original Leather Scabbard, Very Fine.
Original Civil War Period Model 1840 Musician's NCO Sword which has a 28" single-edge blade marked on the ricasso, "U.S." over "A. D. K.", over the Date: "1864". The opposite side of the ricasso is marked, "Made by AMES MFg. Co., CHICOPEE, MASS". The one-piece brass hilt, grip, and guard have a dark yellow-reddish color of age patina and is marked, "G. W. C." (George Washington Company?) on the knuckle guard. The blade is in excellent overall condition retaining much of the smooth factory shine and polish. This Sword retains its original leather scabbard, including the drag that has visible inspectors marks "A. H. K.". However, the scabbard has a 7.25" long section of leather wrap restoration. Apparently, the scabbard was in two pieces and the leather wrap-around portion was added to strengthen and restore it.
