No. 100, issued for 10 shares to Cox & Hill on June 3rd, 1874 in Atlanta. Signed by president Alfred Austell and the cashier. Pen and cut cancelled signatures. Black border and print with eagle vignette. Printed by Bingham & Dodd, Hartford, Conn. 6.25 x 10" Folds, toning. This national bank opened in 1865 and stopped printing money in 1935. They issued 12 different types and denominations of national currency. Alfred Austell organized the bank and served as its president until his death in 1881. He was also a major player in the Georgia cotton industry, and helped build the Atlanta and Charlotte Air-Line and the Spartanburg-Asheville branch of what was later the Southern Railway. The town of Austell in Cobb County is named after him.
