In Part; "The basis for my criticism on defense expenditures is admittedly somewhat general. When we were in Washington and we hadavailable all of the details for studies on which conclusions respecting the Defense Department had to be based, we came to the conclusion that annual expenditures somewhere around 42 Billion dollars would besufficient to provide an adequate military defense for our nation and world interests, with the consequent corollary that to spend more than this amount would in the long run have a weakening influence on our security.
