English, circa 1780. Set of six carved Georgian Chippendale mahogany dining chairs comprising four side and two armchairs, each having a draped crest rail with tassels, centering on a pierced splat with Prince of Wales' feathers, the armchairs terminating on eagle's heads, red leather upholstery, and all rising on front cabriole legs with foliate detail and claw and ball feet. Provenance: Acquired from Miami Circle Antiques, Atlanta, GA, 1998 for $7,000. Approx. of the armchair, h. 40.25", w. 25", d. 22"; seat h. 20.5".
