Description
Central Asia, Tibet, ca. late 19th to mid-20th century CE. A lovely high-quality 94% to 96% silver pendant with turquoise inlays and a copal resin stone in the center. The pendant is formed by two sheets of silver to create a hollow, octagonal shape, and the eight sides represent the Eightfold Path of Buddhism. The verso is flat and etched with a circular and scrolling pattern with four spokes radiating from the center that symbolize the four noble truths of Buddhism. The front side is convex with the outer border inlaid with blue and green turquoise stones. A dramatic repousse surface of vines and flowers surrounds a round yellow copal stone at the center. An integral loop at the top of the pendant is strung on a modern cord with a silver-plated lobster clasp. This is a wearable and beautiful piece of Buddhist symbolism.
