Title: 1868 Yoshitoshi Japanese Woodblock Print Rare Naval Battle Ukiyo-e
Description: This is a rare ukiyo-e or woodblock print by Yoshitoshi Tsukioka in 1868. Published by two publishers, one is Enshuya Hikobei and the other is unidentified. The print shows a scene of a battle at sea. The party in the foreground look to be leading their horses through the water while in the background soldiers line up on wood platforms. We believe this print could be part of a diptych or triptych.
Signed: Yoshitoshi signature in blue cartouche in the lower left corner. Two publisher seals in rectangles to the right of artist signature, first is unidentified and second one is Enshuya Hikobei.
Circa: 1868
Dimensions: 14x9.5 inches
Condition: Some toning and fading on the paper. Wear to outer edges and corners of paper. Small holes and some residue on the print, shown in photos. No rips or tears, insect damage, or creases! See photos for specifics.
Provenance: From the estate of a local retiree, whose grandfather collected Ukiyo-e prints throughout the 1930s.
