(20th century) Apauly-Tustennuggee, unsigned, oil on canvas, 14 x 10 in.; carved wood frame, 17-1/2 x 13-1/2 in. - Provenance: Private Florida Collection - Note: Apauly-Tustennuggee was a chief and warrior of the Creek Nation in Georgia.ÿ This was painted after the Charles Bird King's portrait of him, which was published inÿA History of the Indian Tribes of North America,ÿca. 1843, byÿThomas L McKenney and James Hall, as aÿhand colored lithograph on paper.ÿBears note verso "Presented to Mrs. W.A. Sprouse by Dr Erminnie Will Smallwood July 1907, Chillicothe, Ohio".
