Description
Rajput work, the robust iron hilt inlaid overall in fine, complex goldwork in flowering vinework, inscribed in Devanagari on the pommel in silver: SHRI MATAJI THAKRA RAJ SHRI SAWANATH SINGH JI THIKANA MAHAJAN RI MUTH. The massive blade of complex form, with narrow fuller at the spine and a broad fuller at the center, in original bright finish with pattern-welded construction evident, and inscribed at the forte and along the spine in Devanagari as well: MAHAJAN KA RAKSHA NARISHRED THAKRA RAJ SHRI VARISALJIRI, indicating the sword was presented to or received by Noble Lord Thakra Varisaljiri for the protection of Mahajan State. It further bears a collection number at the forte. In its very-covered wooden scabbard with silver suspension band. 18th century. Light wear. Overall length 91cm. Condition II
