A Fine French Champleve Enamel and Gilt Bronze Dressing Mirror, 19th c., the bronze marked "H.N" on reverse for Henry Normant, having an oval beveled mirror plate within a floral-decorated enamel frame, surmounted by a cabochon crest with cascading floral tendrils, flanked by cherubs standing on scrolling arms on paw feet, height 26 1/2 in., width 15 1/2 in., depth 7 1/2 in. Note: The rare “HN” mark is believed to be Henry Normant, a bronzier and enamel maker working in Paris until 1878 when his company became E. Henry. The company participated in many international exhibitions from 1851 to 1878, and received several awards, including a Gold Medal in 1867 for the quality of its productions. After receiving this award, Normant attracts the attention of various prestigious makers such as Tiffany & Co. Henry Normant produced high quality items, modeled after designers and sculptors such as Auguste Moreau. The House of Henry-Normant also manufactured items for luxury companies such as Susses Frères, and Maison Alphonse Giroux, who would then affix their own signatures to Henry Normant's works. During the Exposition Universelle in Paris, 1878 Normant displayed works under with his own mark as well as also others made for and retailed by Tahan.
