Description
Passport issued to a Jewish woman and her daughter lining in Vienna, Austria bearing a large, red 'J' on the first page. The 'reisepasse' was issued to 42 year-old Kathe Hoffmann and her 13 year old daughter 'Tilly' in Vienna on January 30, 1939. Photos of both are tied by a Nazi stamp to one of the first few pages. On Feb. 6, 1939 a single voyage visa good for 120 days was issued allowing entry to Australia via steamship sailing Rotterdam March 8, 1939. A visa allowing entry to Pargue is also present, dated Feb. 17, 1939. The pair luckily escaped, with stamped visas entered from Colombo on Mar. 30, 1939, Batavia, and finally Darwin, Australia on Apr. 14, 1939. Part of one visa page has been cut away, and a corner of the cover is gone, else very good.
