Depicts an abstracted figure of a mother holding her child. Juhlin first took sculpting classes at the Art Institute of Chicago at a young age and became a full time sculptor at the age of thirty, shifting from portraits to abstracted Native American figures after a long period of illness.

Signed and dated "Juhlin '85" in pencil lower right, numbered "AP 2/15" lower left in pencil, titled "Transcendence" in pencil bottom center, signed and titled "Jean Juhlin Transcendence" on verso.
