When in 1946 her husband Lawrence Olivier gave her "New Boy", a Siamese feline named after the New Theatre in London where the actor worked regularly, Vivien discovered her passion for these animals. For Leigh, Siamese cats were synonymous with fidelity and intelligence (she even had 16 kittens at a time, according to her own daughter, Susanne Leigh) and became her pet of trust, as attested by the numerous photographic documents in which the acclaimed actress appears surrounded by such charismatic animals.
