An engraved brass makura dokei (pillow-shaped clock)
Edo period (1615-1868) or Meiji era (1868-1912), mid/late 19th century
Surmounted by a bell over four freestanding turned columns, on a plain brass baseplate, the 2.25 inch dial centred by a fixed pierced steel hand reading against movable chapters, within an engraved mask depicting chrysanthemums, with two further apertures, the spring driven movement with chain fusee (the chain currently broken) to the going train with verge escapement with brass balance wheel, the strike train with going barrel and outside countwheel strike mounted on the engraved backplate; with an unrelated wooden stand and possibly the original winding key. The clock: 12.5cm x 12.5cm x 7.5cm (4 7/8in x 4 7/8in x 2 15/16in). (3).
