Four Large Comic Strips, Original Artwork, 1932 to 1935: "Pete the Tramp", "Etta Kett", "Dave's Delicatessan", and "Keeping Up With the Joneses"

A group of four beautiful comic strips dating from 1932 to 1935, from a variety of comic artists including Clarence D. Russell, Paul Robinson, Milt Gross, and Pop Momand. Includes the following:

1. "Etta Kett" by Paul Robinson. February 19, 1932. Measures 26.25" x 8.25". Distributed by Central Press Ass'n. Mr. Perkins tries to make his son, Eddie's case for dating Etta, despite her already stepping out with Dennis Penfield. The strip ran from December 7, 1925, to November 9, 1974, ending after the death of Robinson. It originally began as an advice and etiquette strip, but soon evolved into a humorous comic that followed Etta Kett and her middle-class family and friends.

2. "Dave's Delicatessen" by Milt Gross. August 17, 1932. Measures 23.75" x 5.25". Distributed by King Features Syndicate, Inc. A humorous strip in which builders explain their reasoning for drawing house plans according to how the house is built instead of vis versa - to hide their shoddy workmanship! The comic ran as a Sunday strip from June 7, 1931, until January 13, 1935. Gross was working for the Hearst chain, working on numerous strips including "Banana Oil", "Pete the Pooch", "Count Screwloose from Tooloose", and "That's My Pop!"

3. "Keeping Up with the Joneses" by Pop Momand. June 4, 1933. Measuring 19" x 11.5". Distributed by The Associated Newspapers. A large, six-panel strip, in which Mr. McGinis buys a mounted fish instead of fishing himself. The comical strip ran from March 31, 1913, until April 16, 1938, and followed the McGinis family as they struggled to keep up with the lifestyle of their neighbors, the Joneses. The comic popularized the now-common phrase, "keeping up with the Joneses."

4. "Pete the Tramp" by C.D. Russell. November 30, 1935. Measures 18.75" x 4.5". Distributed by King Features Syndicate, Inc. Titled "Starting from Scratch", in which Pete's pup gets beaten up by a neighborhood cat. The comic ran for more than thirty years, from January 10, 1932, to December 22, 1963. Pete was frequently accompanied by a small yellow dog, whom he called "Boy".

Varying degrees of light toning and soiling to all strips. The "Ella Kett" comic has some wear at the upper left corner and some heavier staining at the edges.
