Eddie Rickenbacker TLS with Christmas Wishes and His Political Ideals
2pp, measuring 7.25" x 10.5", New York, dated December 25, 1963. Signed "Eddie" and addressed to Jerry Milbank. A typed letter from the famed WWI ace, sharing his Christmas wishes, hopes for the New Year, and his ideals for new political leaders, which he has outlined in a creed titled "A Man." He concludes the letter, in part:
"…Let us therefore dedicate our lives to the perpetuation of the American principles of Freedom with confidence. Let us pray every night for the strength and guidance to inspire in others the gratitude, the love and dedication that we owe to this great land of ours, if not for our sake, then for the sake of the generations to come…" With flattened mail folds. Boldly signed.
Edward V. Rickenbacker (1890-1973) was an American fighter ace during the First World War and was the most successful ace of the war, with 26 total victories. He also became a race car driver and military government consultant. He purchased the Eastern Air Lines company in 1938 and headed the company until 1963. He resigned as Chairman of the Board just six days after writing this letter.
