Ancient Egyptian, ca. 5th Century BC, 20K Gold Scarab Swivel Ring. Carved limestone scarab depicting a human headed lion standing on a captive with hieroglyphic inscription sunk in relief. Superb condition and the finest example we have ever handled! Ring Size 8, Weight: 11.95 grams.
The scarab beetle was revered by the ancient Egyptians for its seemingly regenerative powers in addition, the icon of Egyptian understanding of death and rebirth. Scarab amulets such as this were worn to ensure safe passage into the afterlife.
From the property of an East Coast Collector, acquired prior to 1979.
