A Knight Grand Cross Set, 1st Type (with Britannia on the centre medallion), Civil Division (G.B.E.), instituted in 1917; sash badge 90x71 mm, in gilt Silver, obverse enameled, central medallion gilt Silver, enameled, original suspension ring and sash; breast Star, 105x85 mm, silver with smooth rays, centre medallion silver gilt and enameled medallion’s circlet, reverse with vertical tapered pin and hook, in original case of issue (maker’s name has been clipped off) with inscription “G.B.E.” on the lid. Superb set, extremely fine condition.The order was instituted in 1917 by King George V as a reward for any merit towards the Crown,both military and civil. I R!
