Description
Magna Graecia, Greek colony of Apulia, southeastern Italy, ca. mid 4th Century BCE. A thin-walled, near-miniature vessel with typical blackware glaze and applied pink/red decoration. Xenon pottery was a school of regional pottery in Apulia. Unique in style, these vases strayed from normal conventions in Greek vase-painting in that the vessels would be almost completely covered in a thick black slip and then the decorations would be applied in a characteristic pinkish color directly onto the black surface lacking incised detail. Size: 3.5" W x 2.5" H (8.9 cm x 6.4 cm)
