Description
A Chinese famille rose three-part warmer dating from the 19th century. The exterior and lid feature scenes from "Romance from the Western Chamber," one of China's most popular love comedies. The warmer has a pair of beast head handles and a guardian lion finial.
Dimensions are: 5 1/2 inches tall X 5 inches wide, 14 cm X 12.7 cm. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: There is general age wear. There is a chip to the rim of the middle section of the warmer.
Provenance: From Ms. Farrow in Ventura, California. Ms. Farrow's aunt was a close friend with Chinese writer "Princess" Der Ling until she was killed. These items were sold to Ms. Farrow's aunt in the 1930s.
