Condition
Condition:The overall condition is very good to poor with the following:THE FIRSTSoiling/Spots: There are some pinhead sized light colored spots along the hemline at center front and center back.Repairs/Alterations: The dress has been taken in along the side seams, noticeable along the interior seam allowance.THE SECONDStructural Issues: The interior skirt lining seams around the hip level have all been torn or become otherwise detached. The lace where it attaches to the velvet has started to detach and roll.Split/Separated Seams: The front right sleeve is detaching from the armhole.Losses: There are holes under each of the arms in the lace and some small spots down the center front velvet section where the pile has been lost. There are belt loops but no belt.Soiling/Spots: There is a spot on the front left shoulder within the lace. Repairs/Alterations: The interior skirt lining seams around the hip have all had fusible interfacing attached in an attempt to secure the torn sections of fabric and seams. There is a section of lining restitched using clear monofilament on the front left hip. A repair has been made to the bottom of the left closure.THE THIRDStructural Issues: There is a small tear at the back right neckline. Fading/Color Change: The slip has some light fading along the shoulder straps and a color variation at the center front hemline. Soiling/Spots: There is a large yellowed soiled area on the front left hip area that goes over towards the back. Each underarm has some soiling from wear. Additional spots are located on the back left skirt next to the side seam hemline. There is some light soiling along the hemline of the slip. Repairs/Alterations: A 4" repair has been made to the bottom left front hemline and the left side closure snaps have been relocated. The dress was lengthened at the front waist seam. THE FOURTHStructural Issues: There are large holes where the fabric has shredded along the shoulders, neckline, and back left hip, likely from the printing/dyeing process as it only seems to be doing so within the floral print. Split/Separated Seams: The left hip skirt seam has started to separate from the dress. Losses: There are some small holes in the top of the left sleeve cap and the skirt front near the left side. Fading/Color Change: The crepe sleeves and satin sash have browned due to age with lightened orange spots on the sash. Soiling/Spots: There are some light colored spots noticeable in the black skirt lining which appears to be either water damage or mold. Repairs/Alterations: The dress appears to be drastically altered. The left side seam likely was the original closure and is evidenced by the remaining seam allowance and snaps attached to the hip sash. The skirt has been altered throughout but noticeably at the left hip and the interior seam allowances where they aren't even and the stitching was done quickly by a different machine than was originally used for construction. The crepe along the neckline opening appears newer than the remaining sleeve crepe and considering the plunging neckline, it doesn't quite fit the time period aesthetic. A repair is located on the left back bodice near the side. Everything is sold 'As Is'. The stated overall condition of the lot is based on the assumption that the wear is consistent with age and use. The absence of any reference to the condition of a lot does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging. All other condition issues are stated above. To request additional working condition photos, please email couturecr@hindmanauctions.com with the lot number. Condition is a matter of opinion of the evaluator and should not be treated as a statement of fact. Clients must review and agree to the Conditions of Sale before participating in an auction.
