**First Time At Auction**
Egypt, Coptic culture, ca. 100 to 200 CE. A lovely textile fragment formed from tightly-woven cotton fibers in hues of black, gold, purple, red, green, and cream. The exterior lining displays a dense register of abstract geometric and linear motifs with traces of a gold and black fringe panel along one side. The colorful interior panel shows a pair of abstract figures standing abreast while wearing knee-length skirts, their arms folded to their sides, and all surrounded with a segmented red-and-green border. Mounted within a wooden frame lined with a red lining. Size (textile): 4.875" W x 6.625" H (12.4 cm x 16.8 cm); size (frame): 11.9" W x 13.875" H (30.2 cm x 35.2 cm).
