East Asia, China, Eastern Han Dynasty, ca. 206 BCE to 220 CE. A hand-carved wooden female tomb attendant figure of a type known as "mingqi" or "spirit utensil" created to care for a deceased individual of high status in a tomb. The figure stands donning a flowing robe, holds both bent arms against her chest, and boasts plateaued shoulders which flank a slender neck. Her head boasts incised almond-shaped eyes, a flush nose, thin lips, and petite ears, all beneath a bald forehead. Size: 1.75" W x 7.375" H (4.4 cm x 18.7 cm); 8.2" H (20.8 cm) on included custom stand.
