Description
Early American cream pot, Francois Gottier (possibly), Charleston, SC, circa 1785, having a curved punch beaded rim, bulbous body, and circular stepped foot with similarly beaded edge. The scroll handle has a notched thumb grip and secure joints. There is no engraving. Marked twice ''FG'' with serif in punch, with top and bottom inward facing points. 4-3/4''h, 2-5/16''dia (foot). Total approximate weight 3.4 troy oz. Note: A tablespoon in a private collection, of this approximate date with a strongly downturned handle, bears the same ''FG'' mark. The spoon came with a history of being found in a Charleston antique shop decades ago.
