**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, central coast Peru, Chimu culture, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A mold-formed and highly burnished pottery canteen with a round but stable base, a circular body with a carinated periphery, a cylindrical spout with a flared rim, and an arching handle connecting neck to shoulder. The obverse face of the body displays a stylized anthropomorphic figure who wears a grand, tumi-shaped headdress standing atop bowed legs with arms outstretched towards two shorter, almost simian figures with elongated heads. Above each attenuated figure is a stylized bird with similar tumi-shaped crowns, and all subjects are shown atop a stippled ground. The verso displays a pair of right-facing birds with crescent-shaped headdress who hold large staves in their talons. Size: 7.125" W x 9.375" H (18.1 cm x 23.8 cm)

Condition
Small chips to spout rim, with softening to some figural details, and fading to pigment in scattered areas, otherwise intact and very good. Nice preservation to most figural details.
