Larry Connatser (Georgia, 1938-1996), Untitled, 1970, Acrylic on Board, signed, dated '70, and numbered '118' on verso, depicting multicolored shapes and forms on a red ground, in a painted wood frame. Frame size: 20 7/8 in. x 24 7/8 in.Larry Connatser was a prominent Georgia artist who lived and worked in Savannah for most of his life. Connatser's work was inspired by music, surrealism, and art history and are characterized by his distinctive flattened forms and imaginative figures. Early in his career his work was exhibited at the School of Architecture at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Strawn Gallery in Jacksonville, Illinois, the Columbia Museum of Art, among others. During the 1970’s Connatser completed a number of large scale mural commissions in Atlanta that brought his work to a larger southern audience. Though later in his career he preferred to exhibit his work in personally staged private exhibitions, his paintings have also been exhibited at a number of larger museums in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. After his death the Telfair Museum of Art presented his retrospective, “Southern Melodies: A Larry Connatser Retrospective.”
