Description
Rembrandt van Rijn
'The Circumcision' 1630, B48
RARE AMAND-DURAND SIGNED PRINTING!
This small antique etching was created by Amand Durand in 1880, on the reverse it has his vintage red stamp which gives the etching it's authenticity.
All of the hand-printed prints by Amand Durand during the period 1865- 1888, have on their back Durand's stamp in red, which is designated in the Lugt Stamps Catalogue as LUGT 2934.
The red stamp is NOT on the modern AMAND DURAND gravure re-strikes, which are still being printed TODAY!
For more on this see the Eric Gillis's in 'Des oringinaux de Rembrandt aux heliogravures: le cas d'Amand-Durand.." in Alison McQeen's "The Rise of the Cult of Rembrandt" published in Amsterdam 2003.
Printed by Durand on thin antique laid paper with vertical chain lines and as usual, a small margin and the vital red stamp on the reverse.
The etching is lightly attached to the black support sheet by the top corners, by easily removable archival tape, which allows verification by the purchaser that the red stamp is actually present.
The plate measures 3.50 x 2.50 ins, overall size including mat 14 x 11 ins.
A Certificate of Authenticity will be supplied.
