Description
A PAIR OF CARTIER STERLING SILVER LEAF FORM CANDY/NUT BOWLS, DESIGNER ALFREDO SCIARROTTA, MARKED, MID 20TH CENTURY, each modeled as a maple leaf with curling tips in bowl form and raised on three "C" shaped feet, verso stamped "Cartier / HAND MADE / STERLING / S / 3C," height: 2 3/4", width: 5 1/2", depth: 5 3/4", total approximate weight: 9.272 troy oz. Note: Alfredo Sciarrotta (Italian/American 1907-1985) a noted mid-century designer whose naturalistic hand made works such as this pair of maple leaf nut dishes appealed to those more in favor of modernist principles. The elegant slightly curled tips and leaf veins visible, yet not overly so, are a mastery of subtleness. This form became a virtual icon of his oeuvre and museums such as The Smithsonian recognized this by having his work placed in their collection. His silver and silver plate could be found in some of the finest retail establishments such as Tiffany & Co, Gump's, Georg Jensen, and Cartier.? Provenance: From the Collection of Judy Harding, Houston, Texas.
