Description
A PAIR OF EDWARDIAN PAINTED SATINWOOD SHIELD BACK ARMCHAIRS, CIRCA 1900, each with a shield back and arched crest rail centering trailing white flowering leafy vine details, above a pierced splat centering a shaped panel with an oval grisaille marguerite and flanked by foliate knobbed and curved side panels, within squared stiles issuing same arms and down swept supports continuing white floral vine decoration, on flaring square block capitals and tapering legs ending on conforming feet, joined by a bow front seat rail beneath a padded trapezoidal seat covered in a modern dusty rose pink damask upholstery. Height: 37" Width: 20 3/4" Depth: 19" Provenance: Private Collection, Pearland, Texas.
Condition
Each in good antique condition with sturdy frames and expected surface buildup, light scuff marks, small scratches, dings, small chips on edges, small patches of paint loss from use, normal wear on crest rail, hand rests and feet, old repairs, and normal wear for chairs of this age, materials, and use. Upholstery is modern and has a few faint spots but otherwise is in good condition. Simpson Galleries strongly encourages in-person inspection of items by the bidder.
