Description
A LARGE QING DYNASTY TWO HANDLED BRONZE CENSER, GUI, SQUARE MARK, 1644-1912, of circular compressed bulbous form and an angled flat rim engraved with undulating blossoming and fruiting vines, over a short flaring neck and sides cast in shallow relief with an instructor and his young charge seated in an open pavilion before a continuous scene of figures at various pursuits, flanked by stylized fish form handles and raised on a conforming flaring foot with fretwork banding, verso centering an impressed square form six character marks seal stamp beneath an engraved flaming pearl and flanked by an engraved pair of contesting sinuous five claw dragons amidst stylized clouds over celestial firmament details. Height: 7" Width: 17" Depth: 12 1/2" Provenance: From the Estate of James Hayden, Natchitoches, Louisiana.
Condition
Good antique condition for Chinese censers of this age, use and material including but not limited to surface oxidized spots throughout, normal wear, dings, scratches, casting flaws, interior has black soot residue, dust/dirt buildup, and is heavy.? ?
