AN 18TH CENTURY SPANISH LOUISIANA PERIOD MAP OF NEW ORLEANS, "Grondvlakte van Nieuw Orleans, de Hoofdstad van Louisiana/De Oostelyke ingang van de Missisippi met een Plan van het Fort,t welk het Kanaal beheerscht/De Uitloop van de River Missisippi," AMSTERDAM, 1767-1769, AMSTERDAM, 1767-1769, hand colored engraving on cream laid paper, published posthumously after the work of Dutch cartographer Isaak Tirion (1705-1765), at left a plan of the French Quarter of New Orleans, Royal Street translating de Koninklijke Straat, the river bank marked with anchor spots for ships and canoes, at center an eight-pointed compass rose; in the upper right is a view of the Mississippi River delta; and in the lower right a detail of the East Pass of the mouth of the Mississippi River, specifically detailing the location of Fort La Balise. 13 1/2" x 18 1/4" Provenance: Private Document Collection, Rochester, New York.
