Ancient World, Upper Cretaceous, ca. 100 to 66 million years ago. A round, fossilized dinosaur egg from a red sandstone formation. The shell structures are preserved under a crackling of earthen deposits. The round shape suggests that this egg belonged to a Hadrosaur, an herbivorous dinosaur. Although the shell suggests a rather large egg compared to many modern eggs, it would have been considered a small to mid-sized egg for a dinosaur. Size: 5.11" L x 5.72" W x 5.56" H (13 cm x 14.5 cm x 14.1 cm)

Hadrosaurs, also known as duck bill dinosaurs, are thought to have been good parents who watched carefully over their nests, based on nest sites found in western Montana. Newly hatched hadrosaurs were small - around a foot long - and weighed about 1.5 lbs. Their parents would have brought them fruits and leaves as they rapidly grew to be thirty foot long, three-ton adults.
