Chodor chuval, Turkmenistan, first half 19th century.A grand statement of early Chodor weaving is this exemplary large chuval with unusually deep dimensions. Rows of beautifully drawn ertmen guls present a tall and regal presence nestled within a delicate diagonal lattice of "daisy-chain" blossoms. Again, we see the infinite repeat at the top and bottom of the field pattern bringing movement to the overall composition. A narrow border of spiky trees is also seen in a rare Chodor torba in this sale. The elem at the bottom displays a burst of trees and serrated leaves.Size: 4'0'' x 2'9'' (122 x 84 cm). Weight: 5 lbs. Material: wool pile, wool warp, wool weft.
