Loose in publisher's wrappers in glassine jacket. Housed in slipcase. Previous owner's bookplate. Number 19 of 130 copies. Anthony Gross was a British artist especially known for his etchings. He attended art schools in London, Madrid, and Paris, and worked in many artistic capacities throughout his twenties, including designing costumes, producing intaglio prints, working on films, and illustrating the 1929 edition of this book. During World War II, he was an official war artist, painting a variety of landscapes, portraits, and military scenes. After the War, he continued producing lithographs, illustrating books, taught drawing, and exhibited his work in London, New York, and Paris.This novel tells the story of a pair of tight-knit siblings, Elisabeth and Paul, who grow up sharing a private world, motivated by something called The Game, that gets splintered as they get older and make new relationships.
