A detailed account of journalist Joseph Kessel's travels across America and into Eastern Russia, including Siberia. Number 836 of 890 copies. Joseph Kessel was one of the greatest reporters of the interwar period. He wrote nearly eighty novels, was a member of the Académie française, and served as Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour. Alexandre Alexeieff was a Russian painter, illustrator, and filmmaker who lived and worked in Paris. Within several years of moving to Paris in 1921, Alexeieff began illustrating books and gained recognition. In his career, he created 6 pinscreen films and over 40 commercial films and illustrated over 40 books.The present work, inspired by Kessel's experience volunteering in Siberia during the First World War, takes place in Vladivostok during the winter of 1919, when the city was a display of distress. Clashes between White and Red Russians are raging under the watchful eyes of Western contingents stationed in the port.
