Numerous contemporary newspaper cuttings, including several reporting on the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Several poems, prayers, and memorials cut from newspapers. 1 albumen photograph, 19 illustrations, 7 trade cards, 7 Valentine's Day cards, 1 Christmas card, 1 invitation to Anniversary Exercises, 1 invitation to the Assembly Ball, 1 wedding invitation, 3 leaf pressings, and 1 small pamphlet about Central Park. Marbled boards with leather spine and corners. An interesting scrapbook dealing with Chicago in the late 1800s. This scrapbook contains various newspaper clippings about Chicago, a chromolithograph, greeting cards and valentines. Select items include:1) A flyer advertising a night of food and singing at Parson Hawe's Meeting House. Indicates the food that will be eaten, activities taken, songs sung, and occassions celebrated over a two-day period in December of unknown year.2) A page of poems presumably printed in the newspapers of the time. Most encourage readers to enjoy their current lives and not want for more than they have.3) A pamphlet for an Assembly Ball on November 21, 1878, detailing the order of the dances to be danced.4) Santa Claus' Quadrilles.
