An early French cast iron post finial with a floral shaped top and stepped base, possibly the top to a horse hitching post, mid 19th century or earlier. The front is marked within oval "SOCIETE DES CLOTURES (translates to Fencing Society)/ FERS & BOIS / Bte S.G.D.G. (patent without government guarantees) / A VOUTENAY / (VONNE)". See photo of base of finial as it appears it was cut from the top section of a column. 14"H x 5 3/4" diameter.
