Description
Bottle of Romanée Conti, Domaine de la Romanée Conti, Vintage 1994. Grand Cru. Category: red wine. A.O.C. Vosne-Romanée, Còte d´Or (France). Level: A/B. Bottle No.: 03291/4210 75 cl.Domaine de la Romanée Conti is the most important winery of this appellation. Probably the most prestigious winery in the world, and therefore also the most expensive, and a national flagship in France. Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Romanée St. Vivant, Échézeaux, Grands Echézeaux, Montrachet and Corton, the winery's historic collection of properties is made up of exceptional grands crus. Two of them are held in monopoly status (sole vineyard owners) and are all located in the heart of the Côte d'Or, one of the most prized areas for wine lovers. The history of this small domaine dates back to 1232, when the Abbey of Saint Vivant received as a donation some important vineyards in the locality of Vosne-Romanée, the current Romanée-Conti and Romanée Saint-Vivant. In 1760, the Prince de Conti, a member of the French royalty, acquired the property but lost it in 1780 when it was expropriated during the French Revolution; it was sold at auction. In the following decades, the Romanée-Conti has belonged to multiple owners until 1869 when it was acquired by Jacques-Marie Duvault Blochet, winemaker and owner of other prestigious vineyards. Duvault Blochet consolidated the vast and prestigious domain and to this day it is the descendants of his two daughters, the De Villaine and Leroy families, who hold, in equal shares, this noble property.
