Francis Emritz Hamabe
United States,1917-2002
Depicts angular black structures against polychromatic washes of blue, green, red, and yellow. Hamabe enrolled at the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts and began a career in commercial illustration drawing cartoon vignettes for The New Yorker and Philadelphia Enquirer. In 1942 Hamabe joined the army, attending the Rhode Island School of Design after the war was over where he learned serigraphy, oil painting, and Japanese Sumi ink drawing, becoming a pioneer of silkscreen printing when he later moved to Maine.
