John Fabian Carlson
New York, Colorado, Sweden,1875-1945
Tonalist depiction of a snow covered meadow with dried tall grass peeking through melted patches and bare trees reaching towards the sky. Carlson studied at the Buffalo Albright Art School under Lucius Hitchcock before enrolling at the Art Students League in New York under Frank Vincent DuMond and Birge Harrison. Later on he become involved in the Arts and Crafts Movement at Woodstock as part of the Byrdcliffe Colony and eventually had his first one man show in New York City. Beside his school affiliations, Carlson also helped found the Broadmoor Art Academy in Colorado springs and opened the John F Carlson School of Landscape Painting in Woodstock, New York.

Board with slight warping, very light craquelure, minor dark spot to center, may benefit from a cleaning, frame with minor wear and losses, otherwise good condition.
