Item Details
Description
Saint Jose de Charitas
o/c; 29 by 25 in.; framed
From the estate of a Beacon St., Boston gentleman, purchased in Chile in the early 1970's.
This painting was examined by a leading Brazilian expert, now deceased, by the name of Edson Motta in Rio De Janeiro on October 30, 1972. "The writing is timid and indecisive especially in the hands, which means it was made by someone who a copyist. The exam of the ink/paint used reveal the presence of cobalt blue amongst other pigments. This particular color only shows up in the artist's palette around the time of 1803."
