***Auction Highlight*** 1801 O-101 R-3 Draped Bust Half Dollar 50c Graded au58 details By SEGS. This is the first year of issue for the new design with the Heraldic Eagle reverse, and it is a rarity in near-Mint or Mint State grades. Two varieties are known for this date, produced from a common obverse die. The reverse used for the O-101 variety has small die defects, especially at the border below the arrow feathers. A light wipe years ago that has since retoned over superbly is the reason for the details designation. Aspects of this coin are sharply detailed with a very few areas of weakness evident on both sides,. Both sides have excellent luster beneath steel blue and gorgeous lilac and iridescent toning. I have included an additional picture of the obverse where we shone the light directly at the surface to illustrate the fabulous colors present when you have this wonderful coin in hand. I have included another au58 examples for your comparison. I think in terms of wear ours compares favorably. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin.
