Description
Louis XV style marble top commode a vanteaux, after a model by Antoine-Robert Gaudreau, early 20th century, having a grey marble bow front top, above a conforming case fitted with a pair of curved doors opening to two shelves, each door centering an oval gilt metal reserve depicting a bacchante riding a goat on one side, and Ariadne riding a panther on the other, each suspended from a ribbon and framed by acanthus leaves and blossoming flower garlands, the doors flanking a relief plaque depicting a female mask, the whole rising on cabriole legs with rams' head knees terminating to scrolling feet, 38"h x 60"l x 25"d. Note: This chest modeled after the commode-medaillier used by Louis XV now in the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris.
