Sarah on self love:
Self Love is hard sometimes and easier other times. I think getting older helps, despite what everyone tells you about getting older! Self love, to me, means surrounding myself with the people and places and experiences that allow me to be my full self. This doesn't mean that that space is void of criticism, it just means that, when you are grounded in your full self, it's easier to hear criticism and be accountable without being defeinsive. Another thing about getting older, everyone tells you that you should know who you are and what you want your life to be and what your work is.... I've found that applying that kind of definitive pressure really panics me. So self love means settling into curiosity within myself and with my relationships. It means staying open to change within myself and within the people I love. I feel best when I'm supported and supporting others in a space of honesty, vulnerability, trust, listening, and the constant willingness to change (when that change feels right). I guess what I'm saying is that curating a life of mutual care, support and a learning environment is when I feel the most myself. And I guess the goal is just finding ways to live your life that allow you to be the most true version of yourself. I think self love also means allowing people to love you and care for you. That's not always easy for me. The learning never ends and I kinda love that!
