Description
Middle/Near East, Medieval Islamic Period, Mamluk, ca. mid-13th to early 16th century CE. An enormous hammered brass dish of a broad, circular form with a slightly rounded but stable base, a wide basin surface engraved with intricate Kufic calligraphy, and a raised rim with an out-folded lip. The shallow basin surfaces are adorned with a plethora of large hexagonal, circular, or trapezoidal panels filled with linear, geometric, or foliate motifs along with some bearing scrawling Kufic text, and the innermost circle has scalloped borders and large, intersecting Kufic words. The outermost periphery features an angular helical pattern beneath a scrollwork-adorned rim, and the entire platter is covered in lustrous patina. Size: 30.6" Diameter x 1.375" H (77.7 cm x 3.5 cm)

Condition
Slight bending to overall form, with softening to some engraved details on rim and within basin, and light abrasions along base, otherwise intact and very good. Nice patina throughout.
