Description
East Asia, China, Han dynasty, ca. 206 BCE to 220 CE. An impressively preserved mold-made pottery figure of a groom, standing with his left arm held outwards and his right arm resting parallel to his body. Adorned in hues of red, cream, grey, white, and black, the handsome gentleman presents a slender body dressed in a long-sleeved robe that flares out at his knees. Atop the robe, he wears a black, short-sleeved vest, embellished with red and white polka-dots. A thick collar covers his neck. The ancient figure's round visage features slender eyes beneath an arched brow, a broad nose, and a straight mouth, all capped by a brimmed hat with a red chinstrap. His expression is both calm and dignified, as he holds out his hand in a determined manner, presumably to hold that of the brides or perform a ritual as part of the ceremony. A petite drill hole is featured on his right side. Size: 2.375" W x 9.25" H (6 cm x 23.5 cm); 10.875" H (27.6 cm) on included custom stand.
