Description
AMERICAN PAINT-DECORATED FOLK-ART CARVED WOODEN WALL BOXES, LOT OF TWO, comprising a matchbox holder with open-pocket base, top with a hanging hole, creamy-white ground with medial facing having applied carved beveled squares in white, green and red paint, base facing with applied alternating green and red diagonals; remaining example in a shield-form with hanging hole and central open-pocket box, pale blue paint. Late 19th/first half 20th century. 7" HOA, 3 7/8" W and 7 1/2" HOA, 7 5/8" WOA.
Very good overall condition with expected wear, corners with some minor losses to wood.
Provenance: The collection of the late Theodore "Ted" and Alvina Breckel, Oley, PA and Winnetka, IL.
