Description

AMERICAN FOLK ART PAINTED WOOD SIGN, single-sided rectangular form with "ROOM / FOR RENT" gilt lettering on a black-painted background having sandy texture, beveled edge with gilt and black-painted finish, two hanging rings to side edges, back painted black. Together with a turned architectural finial having a yellowish painted finish. Two pieces total. Late 19th/early 20th century. Sign 12 1/8" x 5 3/4" without hanging rings.
Sign in very good overall condition with some scattered flaking to paint; finial in good overall condition.
Provenance: The collection of the late Theodore "Ted" and Alvina Breckel, Oley, PA and Winnetka, IL.
