Description

NEW ENGLAND FEDERAL FIGURED BIRCH CHEST OF DRAWERS, rectangular one-board overhanging top above four graduated drawers, each with scratch-beaded profile, flanked by solid ends, the whole raised on tall, cut-out feet centering an elliptical central drop. Pine and poplar secondary woods. Retains an outstanding, possibly original, surface with rich color. Possibly Maine. Circa 1815. 41" H, 40" x 18 3/4" top.
Very good overall condition with minor scattered wear and discoloration. Brasses replaced. Cracks to feet, proper left front facing detached but present.
Provenance: The collection of the late Theodore "Ted" and Alvina Breckel, Oley, PA and Winnetka, IL.
