Description

MID-ATLANTIC DECORATED STONEWARE JARS, LOT OF TWO, salt-glazed, each of cylindrical form, comprising an approximately one-quart capacity Philadelphia example featuring three cobalt brushed horizontal dropped flower decorations and brown-glazed interior, and an approximately half-gallon capacity Baltimore example with heavy beaded neck ring and double-bloom spitting tulip decoration to one side. Circa 1875. 6 3/4" H, 4 1/8" D rim and 8 3/4" H, 5 3/8" D rim.
Undamaged, except Baltimore example having some light hairlines to interior that do not appear to go through to front and a few minute flakes to beaded neck ring. Each having some manufacturing flaws, as made.
Provenance: The collection of the late Theodore "Ted" and Alvina Breckel, Oley, PA and Winnetka, IL.
Philadelphia example: Andrea Hollenbaugh, East Berlin (PA) Show, 5/24/2002.
Baltimore example: Hovey B. Gleason Antiques, Marietta, PA, 4/16/1984.
